🌿 About Kromanti Fest: Honoring Our Roots, Empowering Our Future

Born from healing, unity, and cultural pride, Kromanti Fest is more than just a festival β€” it is a movement.

In 2022, amidst public disagreements and division within Maroon communities, and during a deeply personal time of loss, a vision was reborn. Our founder, mourning the passing of their mother and seeking to bring peace to fractured communities, chose creativity as a path forward. What began as a birthday drum circle evolved into something far greater β€” a cultural celebration rooted in love, resilience, and unity.

After consulting with community elders, including a respected Taino chief, a simple gathering became a powerful symbol of connection. Originally inspired by a 2012 idea called Kromanggae (a blend of Kromanti and Reggae), the concept was reimagined and rebirthed as Kromanti Fest β€” a fusion of Taino, Maroon, Kumina, Rastafari, Reggae, and Dancehall cultures.

With minimal resources but boundless heart, the first Kromanti Fest welcomed drummers, dancers, singers, and speakers β€” all celebrating the sacred rhythms of our ancestors. Though the crowd was small, the energy was magnetic, and the message clear: our cultures are powerful, and they deserve a home.

Through Pikibo Prandes, we ensure that our young people are not only witnesses but active participants in shaping the future of our culture.
